LINH DANG, SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Scroll down to learn more about me, my journey, and some of my recent projects!

About me

I'm a life long learner who values freedom, community, and self-improvement. I like to spend my time running, listening to Hamilton, learning about cool technologies, and building interesting apps. Life is meant to be experienced so I try my best to enjoy each and every day.

Quoting an all-time favorite, "it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." - Rocky Balboa

How I got here

I've always loved to build things since I was young. That trend continued through every phase of my life; starting from legos, to playing resource gathering board games, and then, professionally, with project management and Tableau. That last piece was my gateway into computer science and, subsequently, into software engineering. From there, I just fell in love with the freedom of programming and transforming my vision into reality. I knew right away I wanted to code full-time and I haven't looked back since.

What I have done

My primary focus has been to create websites that are value adding and to show my passion for coding. These projects include all the steps from ideation through implementation. They cover frontend with ReactJS, backend with Express, Node.js, RESTful APIs, Postgres/MySQL, and deployment with Git, Webpack, Docker, and AWS.

My Projects

Here are some recent projects that I've worked on. These demos are served via Github Pages and have limited functionality.

STOCK CHECK

Stock Check was an application that was built using ReactJS, Material-UI, Recharts, and Cheerio.js. I was inspired to create a web app that could quickly compare publicly listed stocks to keep up with the fast-paced stock market. For more convenience, I used Cheerio.js to scrape the daily top 100 most active stocks and added in some commonly used financial metrics.

TO-LA

For this project, I worked primarily on the backend where I scaled a legacy real-estate listing web application to handle production level throughput by utilizing Postgres, Docker, NginX, and AWS. My favorite aspect of this project was the joy of maximizing the efficiencies regarding system design and load-balancing.

REST-N-RELAX

I worked on a team where we built a vacation rental booking service web application. My main component was the reservation and calendar microservice. The tech stack included JavaScript, ReactJS for the frontend, MySQL, Node, and Express for the backend, and AWS for deployment.
